Music Review | TVF Pitchers (Web Series) | Vaibhav Bundhoo

As promised TVF released the soundtrack of TVF Pitchers, TVF Permanent Roommates S2 and TVF Tripling. This will be my review for TVF Pitchers. I'll be reviewing the other two in the next few days. So keep an eye on this blog for that. If you have missed out my review of the music album of TVF Humorously Yours, you can check out here. Like I said for that review too, I recommend (but not a compulsion) watching the web series first to get the context of the music as well as this review. Moreover, I highly doubt if you are reading this then you've not already watched it. So without further ado, let's get right into it!

Album Release Date: 21st February 2017

Original Soundtrack Available here: http://tvfplay.com/episode/1/1/18/886

The Relevant Sound (Pitchers Theme) - Instrumental
Runtime: 54 seconds
This theme song is so iconic that TVF actually uses it in the intro of all of it's videos on YouTube. Even as I recall it, two things come to my mind. First, the series intro
and second - "Watch awesome shows and videos every week on TVFPlay app and website. Because it's not on TV it's on TVF" plays in my head. This track doesn't just define TVF Pitchers now, it defines the entire TVF as a platform. With this track officially released, don't be surprised if you find this as someone's ringtone.

The Relevant Sound
Runtime: 4 minutes 17 seconds
So, this is the actual song for iconic intro we talked about above. Our ears are not used to hearing the lyrics along with this tune so it feels weird to be honest. I know this series was released prior to Humorously Yours but I don't know if some of the songs were composed already. The reason I say this is because the singing in this song distinctively sounds similar to Takdeer Ki Laqeer from Humorously Yours. The beats and tempo match. Go listen to that song and come back again and listen to this. Let me know if you find similarities.

EP1 - How You Want To Leave
Runtime: 3 minutes 35 seconds
"Think about how you want to leave if you forget what you came here for". What a brilliant piece of advice for literally anybody in every given situation I can think of right now. This song is full of amazing lyrics however, they are suppressed behind the overpowering music.

EP1 - Historical Intersections
Runtime: 3 minutes 41 seconds
This song went unnoticed during the series and it went unnoticed in this album as well.

EP2 - Bounce (Dungeon Master/ Coder Scene)
Runtime: 3 minutes 17 seconds
The flickering light, the cramped corridor and dungeon master - it all comes life when I heard this song. The song is partly in English and partly in Hindi (no, it's not in Hinglish). The music in the first ten seconds sounds like ancient Shaolin-type. I was casually listening through the English lyrics when I heard this - "Saal me hote hai 52 hafte, aise waise ch*tiyo ko dur se namaste. Bina joke samjhe jo haste hi rehte". I laughed so hard at that. Not for the cuss word, but for how unexpected it was in the song.

EP2 - I Cannot Wait (End Title Credits)
Runtime: 2 minutes 27 seconds
The eagerness you have to do something you've always wanted to do and finally get to do it. That's what this song talks about. The song is not so much lyrical. This is the kind of the song that can keep on playing in the background without you actively listening to it.

EP3 - I Cannot Wait (Sad Version)
Runtime: 55 seconds
This is a slow piano version to the above song. Without the lyrics, this is an even better ambient song than it.

EP4 - The Heist
Runtime: 1 minute 20 seconds
True to the title of this song, it does give out the vibe of a heist or at least something something adventurous happening. The tune is catchy but ended soon and I was left wanting for more.

EP4 - Bulb Jalega Boss (Naveen Speech)
Runtime: 3 minutes 11 seconds
As the title suggests, this is played during Naveen's monologue where he sells himself. Since, there is a lot of narrative during this part, this track is very subtle. It would keep it playing you wouldn't even realize it. However, if you listen to it carefully, you'll notice the progression in the pitch and tempo as the song progress, subtly notifying us that we're reaching the high point in the scene, monologue and the track itself.

EP4 - Aage Peeche (End Titles)
Runtime: 3 minutes 32 seconds
If you've been watching TVF videos for a long time then you'll realize there are similarity in some of the tracks composed by Vaibhav Bundhoo. It seems like that is his comfort zone. I'll name such songs as Vaibhav-template songs going forward. 'The Relevant Sound' from this album was also a Vaibhav-template song. This song has also been used by TVF in their Tinder Qtiyapa video.

EP5 - Jitu Destroys / Gunday Nahi Hain
Runtime: 1 minutes 43 seconds
"Gunday nahi hain, entrepreneur hain bc". The most famous scene of the entire series and the breaking point of coy Jeetu. This track goes well with the visuals of breaking stuff. Otherwise, nothing extraordinary.

EP5 - Mandal Speech
Runtime: 2 minutes 57 seconds
Similar to Naveen's monologue, Mandal has a monologue and this is the background track played during that. And similar to that track, this one is progressive during it's runtime as well. If you listen to it closely, it's a four beat progression pattern in the song. But don't get obsessed with waiting for that fourth 'cute' beat throughout the track like I got.

EP5 - The Cheque
Runtime: 1 minute 11 seconds
Another contextual background score which has no meaning as standalone track.

EP5 - Mere Sapnon (Naveen-Shreya Breakup)
Runtime: 4 minutes 06 seconds
This series had the most realistic breakup ever shown. Despite not being gone through one, I could still feel the pain. Coming to the song, there was one thing particularly that didn't fit in the song was Vaibhav's hindi pronunciation. Now, we know that Vaibhav has a British English accent and I am not complaining about his singing or nit picking this song. This is a highly emotional moment in the series and equally emotional song. I felt that this could've been sung by someone else.

EP5 - One Step at a Time
Runtime: 3 minutes 07 seconds
The diversity in Vaibhav's music is amazing. He tries so many variations in each of his songs. However, his singing gets monotonous. The song plays at the end of the season finale and it sums up the series really well with the kind of lyrics it has. With one hurdle crossed, one step taken let's think about our next step - in the next season.

With a humongous album consisting of 15 tracks, this is truly a complete music album comprising of songs as well as background scores. I'd like to define this album as an ambient album where is you'd enjoy listening to it if it's playing but wouldn't personally go and play it. If you save it in your music library right now, in a few weeks most of the songs might get lost in it. So here are my favourites from the album:
The Relevant Sound (Pitchers Theme) - Instrumental
EP2 - Bounce (Dungeon Master/ Coder Scene)
EP3 - I Cannot Wait (Sad Version)

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Cheers...!
