Music Review | Rustom | Arko Pravo Mukherjee, Raghav Sachar, Ankit Tiwari, Jeet Gannguli

So I went back to 2016 B.C. in my previous review of Mohenjo Daro. I started to move forward in time and then I stuck in the 1950s following a love story turned murder mystery of naval officer Rustom Pavri. With a huge spectrum of drama I got to witness, I also witnessed some quality music throughout the situation.

So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this is album caught my attention as much as the whole scenario did!

Tere Sang Yaara
Music Director: Arko Pravo Mukherjee
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Atif Aslam
That piano arrangement in the beginning got me hooked on at that very moment. Atif's vocals are not overpowering the music. They are soft and mellow. And again, this is a template romantic song of the album as it has been the case with Akshay's recent better movies - Soch Na Sake (Airlift)Main Tumse Pyar Nahi Karta (Baby)Shaayraana (Holiday)

Music Director: Raghav Sachar
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Sukriti Kakar
Aaj Ki Raat (Don) vibe. Good to see Raghav Sachar get opportunity to showcase his talent. Sukriti Kakar's young voice combined with fast paced music makes it lively. This song would've been better had the tempo been slower and a mature voice. But I guess they didn't want the album to go all serious and heavy. However, that doesn't take away from how enjoyable this song is.

Music Director: Ankit Tiwari
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Ankit Tiwari
I hated Ankit Tiwari so much initially for absurd lyrics in all his songs. He has gradually improved with time. Lyrics bring out the ardent romantic personality or as many would call it - stereotypical chaand taare tod laau stuff. Musical arrangement are underplayed which left me wanting for more at the end of song. Of course, this song has the standard Ankit Tiwari high note chorus followed by beat drop. Wish he starts trying something different.

Music Director: Jeet Gannguli
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Arijit Singh, Palak Muchhal
Grab your partner, hold their hand, bring them on the dance floor. We've got a ballroom musical here. I am assuming this will be a wedding song as the lyrics are very mushy and perfect for newly weds. Someone please make an instrumental cover of this song ASAP!

Music Director: Jeet Gannguli
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Jubin Nautiyal, Aakanksha Sharma
Bhula Dena (Aashiqui 2) - that's what this song resembles to. As I said for Ankit Tiwari, Jeet Gannguli too needs to stop creating same genre of songs. Time for a change. Lyrics are just mehh!! Same template. This is the chorus - "Dhal jaun main tujhme,Ghul jaun main tujhme, Mil jaun main tujhme yaara yaara". What does this even mean? *rolling my eyes*
Disappointed that the female singer didn't get to sing the chorus.

Music Director: Ankit Tiwari
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal

"Everthing happens when you are with me. Otherwise... (not stated by the lyricist)"
The intro, from 2.22-2.29 minutes and the outro of the song has the tune that is inspired *cough* stolen *cough* from Tum Hi Ho (Aashiqui 2). A failed attempt for what could've been a really soulful song by Shreya Ghoshal.

Music Director: Raghav Sachar
Trumpets and percussion everywhere just as the original song. This is not actually a theme song but just a musical piece taken from the original song.

Music Director: Raghav Sachar
Lyrics: Mandar Cholkar
Singers: Jasraj Joshi
If a song is directly translated into another language word by word does the credit for the lyrics go the original writer or the translator? Coming back to the song. Jasraj Joshi did a really good job in terms of singing but the marathi lyrics just didn't fit in well. I think this song should've been skipped from the album.

Music Director: Raghav Sachar
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singers: Jasraj Joshi
Still the Aaj Ki Raat (Don) vibe. I loved the singing especially his energy and the high notes in the chorus. Another thing I liked is the reverb/echo effect for the vocals gives it a feel as if it is being played live with a band. Now I wonder - name of the movie is Rustom, based on a male protagonist. Why have the title track playbacked by female?

Music Director: Arko Pravo Mukherjee
Lyrics: Arko Pravo Mukherjee
Singers: Arko Pravo Mukherjee
How is this even a reprise version? It is exactly the same song with a minor changes in lyrics (note the difference in name of the song) and dropping some of the musical instruments. The singer/lyricist/music director of this song did a good job taking the risk of singing Atif's song. This voice gave a realistic feel to the song as compared to more artistic feel by Atif Aslam.

The album started of really well and looked promising but it went downhill pretty fast. Similar to Mohenjo Daro, last few songs are basically a repetition of the initial songs. So expect my Top 3 to be from the initial ones.

TOP 3 PICKS:
1. Tere Sang Yaara
2. Dekha Hazaro Dafaa
3. Rustom Vahi (Male version)
HONORABLE MENTION: Tay Hai

That is all I have for this album. I hope you liked this review. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
