Music Review | Akira | Vishal-Shekhar

If you enjoy watching YouTube videos more than reading a blog post, you can check out my video review for the music album of Akira here:

If not, read on! The page is all yours.

This is a targeted action movie. Not setting expectations from it. But.... yeah there is an Arijit Singh song :P
So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can knock me out with it's songs or I will be able to escape.

Rajj Rajj Ke
Singers: Nahid Afrin, Vishal Dadlani
Lyrics: Kumaar
What a beautiful singing to begin the song with. As soon as the chorus came, I started singing "Jee Karda, Ni Aaj Mera Jee Karda". Yes, The situation and the singing of this song is very much similar to Jee Karda (Badlapur). This could infact be the female version of that song. While that song was an 'angry' version of frustration, this song is a 'tired and hopeless' version of frustration.

Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Finally a fresh song from the album. This song doesn't feel like it has been recorded in a studio. It sounds more like a live version or an 'MTV Unplugged' version (which is good btw in case you are wondering). And I tell this is because Arijit Singh has taken his own sweet time to sing this song with all the aalap and harkate. The chorus has unique lyrics that I've not heard before - "Main purza purza tera, Main purza purza tera, Na aadha pauna tera, Main poora poora tera…".

Singer: Shekhar Ravjiani
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Wow! Brilliant lyrics and singing. Shekhar managed to bring so much variation in his singing in this song. At first I heard the song and liked it but it wouldn't have been fair to review the song without knowing the meaning of kehkasha. It means 'galaxy' or 'road to stars' or 'apple of the eye'. Once I learnt this, the song made much more sense. I am guessing this song is from a father/brother's point of view towards Sonakshi's character.

Singer: Sonakshi Sinha, Vishal Dadlani
Lyrics: Kumaar
This one is the exact same song as the original one but sung by Sonakshi Sinha. Why you may ask? Because a lot of actresses are doing it these days so why be left out #FOMO
With the kind of voice Sonakshi has, I am sure auto tune must have been used. Kudos to Vishal-Shekhar for hiding it so well. Auto tune is not apparent in the song. And of course, the video of this song is also similar to Jee Karda (Badlapur).

Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
"It's darkness everywhere. Be strong, be brave. Don't cloud your eyes with emotions."
This is supposed to a dark song but those emotions don't really show up. During the antara it tries to build up that dark phase but doesn't reach there. Underwhelming song! *sigh*

Singer: Nahid Afrin, Vishal Dadlani
Lyrics: Kumaar
Oh GOD another version of this song! Why? Well, Jee Karda had rock version too. Not implying anything, just providing information to you. As for this song, all the feeling of frustration that the song intended goes down the drain. This song is now a party number.

Although, this is not an album that I'll listen to it on loop. It does have a decent share of its song if you choose to explore this album. So, here are my favourites from the album:
Rajj Rajj Ke (Nahid Afrin version)
Purza
Kehkasha Tu Meri

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
